When Allain Toussaint wrote Yes We Can for Lee Dorsey in 1970, both men obviously knew what was to come in 2008, and felt the need to pave the way for young Barack Obama. The recording is funky, political, and unapologetically optimistic. Surprisingly little editing was needed to couch Obama's famous Yes We Can speech into the song.

Although no evidence has surfaced of a small box or other audio equipment under Barack's jacket, clearly this song was being fed into his ear as he made this address.

The song also became the first hit for The Pointer Sisters in 1973, which is a recording worth looking for.
